seen one of his plays in the theatre or as a film? If
so, what was the title, and what was it about?

About the author
William Shakespeare
Born
: 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England
Died:
1616
Important works:
Shakespeare wrote over 30 plays
including
Romeo and Juliet
(1594),
A Midsummer Night’s
Dream
(1595),
The Merchant of Venice
(1596),
Hamlet
(1600) and
Macbeth
(1606). He is also known for his
poetry, particularly his sonnets.
Did you know?
Shakespeare was an actor as well as a
successful writer in his own time. He also owned part
of the Globe Theatre in London, where his plays were
performed. Today his works are still performed all over
the world in English and in other languages. Directors
often set them in a later period than the 16
th
century, or
in the present day, because the themes are still relevant
to modern society.
