What is the greenhouse effect?
Most waste gases come from
petroleum products
that are used in
factories
, cars and homes. These gases form a layer around the Earth.
This
layer
of gases is called the
ozone layer
.
Normally, heat from the Sun reaches the Earth, and then leaves through
the atmosphere. However, the ozone layer traps some of that heat. It
can’t pass through the layer of waste gases. As a result, the temperature
of the Earth increases. This is called the
greenhouse effect
.
