Titulo Joints
How to start
Play the ‘Silly walks’ game. Ask them to invent their very
own sillywalkmoving asmany parts of their body as possible
(getting them to move their joints). Ask them to tell you
what part of their body is moving the most, helping them
by pointing at the wrists, shoulders and helping with the
vocabulary. Finish off by doing a ‘Silly walks’ class parade.
ACTIVITIES: step-by-step guide
Activity 1
Tell the children to listen and watch. Play Track 5 and touch
the joints on the audio. Play the track again and ask the
children to touch their joints.
Tell the children to look at the picture of the girl. Play the track
a third time, this time pausing after eachword. Tell the children
to draw a line from the number and the word to the joint.
Activity 2
Assessment opportunity
Repeat the names of the joints, pointing to each one as you
say the word.
Lift up your left leg and point to the joints in your leg (knee,
ankle). Ask children to look at activity 2. Say ‘Which joints
are in your arm?’ Tell the children to look at the pictures and
to tick the joints that are in their arms. Check their answers
as a whole class activity.
Activity 3
Move your joints one by one, calling out the word as you do so.
Tell the children to standup. Call out names of joints. Students
try moving them.
Ask the children to colour the stars in Activity 1. You can
either ask them to colour depending on how well they
moved their joints OR depending on how much they liked
the activity.
Extra ideas!
Revision
Play a game of
Simon Says
asking children to point to or
move different body parts.
Play the ‘Joints game’. Divide the class into small groups
(each group will be a joint). You then show a flashcard and
the group that has that joint will have to say the word and
touch that part of their body. Repeat with a new flashcard.
Extension
Encourage the children to move their joints and count how
many times they can bend their knees. Ask them to move
their shoulders in circles backwards and forwards….
