In recent years, there has been a general
increase in temperatures around theworld.We
can see the changes more clearly in northern
countries, for example, Russia, because the
weather there was usually extremely cold.
As Arctic areas get warmer, glaciers and sea
ice melt. This means that the amount of land
and sea covered by ice will decrease. The
consequences for polar bears are serious.
Walking on the ice, they can get close to the
seals that they eat. If there’s less ice, it’s
difficult for them to reach the seals, so they
have less food. Some polar bears even die
from drowning. As a result, the polar bear
population is getting smaller.
