QUIZ
Check your learning.
Why are there different climates?
Water
Bodies of water affect climate.
Why? Because water takes
longer to heat up and cool
down than land. If land is close
to water, the temperature
changes more slowly.
Latitude
Can you see the lines of latitude
around the Earth in this picture?
Latitudes that are close to
the Equator are hotter than
latitudes farther away. Each
colour represents a different
climate.
Altitude
Altitude, the height of land above sea
level, affects climate. At higher altitudes,
like on a mountain, temperatures are
lower and there is more precipitation
than at lower altitudes like valleys. This
happens because when it is cold, clouds
cannot hold water vapour, so precipitation
takes place.
