Titulo Scho l subjects
How to start
•
Review jobs at school. Ask:
Who needs keys? The caretaker
or the cook? Who cooks lunch? What does a teacher need?
•
Ask children to think about different subjects they study at
school. Mime some different actions, for example, painting
or playing amusical instrument and see if children can name
the subject.
Activities: step-by-step guide
Activity 1
•
Tell children to find the stickers for the page and to place
them in the correct place.
•
As children are placing their stickers in the correct place,
walk around the classroom pointing to different subjects
and asking
What’s this?
(art/science, etc.)
•
When children have placed their stickers correctly they
circle the subjects they like best. Encourage them to say
sentences, for example:
I like English, I don’t like P.E.
•
Encourage children to name different teachers for different
subjects (if applicable).
Activity 2
•
Childrenpoint to the pictures (flag, paints, microscope, flute,
basketball) and say what they learn at school, for example:
I learn English at school. We learn science at school.
•
Ask questions, for example:
What subject do you like? Who
teaches art? Who is your P.E. teacher?
•
Read the sentence at the bottom of the page.
Extra idea!
Children choose their two favourite subjects.
Have a vote and write numbers on the board.
Assessment opportunity
•
Recap the lesson with the class. Ask:
How did we begin
today’s lesson? What did we do next? And after that? Was
there anything new?
Encouraging the children to stop and
reflect will help them internalise information.
Review
•
Ask children to draw themselves in their favourite class.
When they have finished, they show their picture to a
partner who guesses where they are.
•
Children think of a subject to mime to the rest of the class.
The student who guesses correctly does the next one.
Extension
Class Schedule
•
Tell children you are going to make a class schedule. Bring
a large sheet of card with a blank schedule and cards to fill
in the blanks with the subject names. Write the days of the
week (Monday-Friday) on the schedule.
•
Before class, prepare cards with different subjects to be
placed on the schedule
(Music, PE, English).
Prepare
enough cards to complete the schedule.
•
Do it as a whole-class activity by asking to the class:
What
subjects do you have on Monday?
They might need some
guidance. Elicit answers.
Ask, for example: What was our
first class today? What do we have next?
and so on.
