LET'S REVISE
Revision
Play an action game to revise body parts and joints. Tell
children to stand up and follow instructions. Explain that if
you say
‘please’
they do the action. If you don’t say ‘please’
they shouldn’t do the action. Say, for example,
Please nod
your head
(children nod their heads);
Please stop
(they stop
nodding);
Roll your shoulders
(they don’t do the action as
you didn’t say the word
‘please’).
Memory game.
Show the opening page poster to the class,
tell them they have to remember as many things as they
can as you show it to them for one minute. Take the poster
away and see howmany things children can remember. Ask
themquestions to check howmuch they have remembered.
Ask children to dramatise how they have grown and changed.
Tell them to stand up and then crouch down into a ‘ball’. Tell
them to imagine they are little babies and to cry like babies.
Then tell them to imagine they have grown a little bit and
that they are learning to walk. Invite them to take a few
tentative steps like a toddler. Tell them to imagine they are a
little bit older and that they are learning to eat with a spoon
or learning to hold a crayon. Finally, tell them to imagine that
they are bigger now and that they can jump and run and
swim and draw (do the actions).
Time and energy permitting, they can continue ‘growing’
through childhood to adulthood using dramatisation and
different types of mime.
ADDITIONAL MATERIAL
Additional material, Test A or Test B
Assessment
Hands or Feet:
draw the outline of a hand on one end of
the blackboard/whiteboard board and the outline of a foot
at the other end. Explain to the children that they need to
stand up, listen to the activity and face the left (hand) or right
(foot) according to what they hear. For example, say:
Kick a
football.
The children should turn to the right, facing the right
wall to show that it is an activity where we use our feet.
Tell them to face the front again and repeat the game with
different activities
(play the guitar, run; clap, snap, jump,
play the flute)
. Observe their capacity to follow directions
and to distinguish between activities where we use our
hands/feet.
Feedback.
play the song and the chant for the unit and sing
or say the karaoke versions with actions. Ask children to
decide which one they like better. If they like the song more
than the chant, they stand up, if they prefer the chant, they
stay seated.
Teacher Tip
The editable and photocopiable online worksheets can be
used to meet the needs of children in class with distinct
needs and levels. Additional support can be provided for
children who are struggling or additional challenges can be
added for more advanced children and early finishers.
•Use formal and informal techniques to evaluate progress.
After completing the unit test, combine this with a revision
game which will provide the opportunity to informally
assess learning outcomes.
