The cardinal points
A
compass
has a face that shows the cardinal points:
north
(N),
east
(E),
south
(S) and
west
(W).
Halfway between north and east is
north-east
(NE). Halfway between
south and east is
south-east
(SE).There’s also
north-west
(NW) and
south-west
(SW). These are called intermediate points.
A compass also has a
needle.
This needle is a
magnet
and the red end
always points north. We can use a compass, together with a map, to
find our way. What direction should the ship go in to get to the different
places on the map?

compass do?
