Types of maps
What information
can you find
on a map?

Read and find what type of map shows:

Maps can represent the world, a continent, a country or a region. Different maps show different
information. Maps are smaller representations of a place, so they have a
scale
, for example 1 cm = 100 km.
We measure the distance on the map between two places. Then we can calculate the real distance.
A
relief map
shows high land and low
land. High land is brown and low land is
green. Rivers are wavy blue lines.
There’s a key that shows the colours and
how high the land is.
A
political map
shows the
borders
of
a country and its different regions. It
shows the capital with a red dot and
regional capitals with black dots.
