Plurilingualism
The European Union establishes the promotion of
plurilingualism as an essential objective in the construction
of a European project. The new curriculum supports
plurilingualism, stepping up efforts to ensure that students
can communicate fluently in at least one foreign language.
The new
Oxford CLIL
textbooks address teaching different
content areas in English.
Key Competences
The new curriculum emphasises the importance of Key
Competences. Oxford coursebooks fully integrate Key
Competences into the learning experience:
Communicative functions
Communication is central to the language learning
experience. Oxford Courses prepare learners to be
active members of society as well as successful
language learners.
Learning to learn
Students learn new language and then put it into
practice in meaningful ways. They are guided and
supported in developing the skills needed to be
successful and confident lifelong learners.
Assessment criteria and standards
Oxford titles cover all of the language objectives
of the new curriculum as well as integrating Key
Competences. All of our courses provide a fully
comprehensive assesment package, facilitating frequent,
level-adapted assesment of students’ progress across
the skills as well as their preparation for external
examinations.
Language teaching in the 21
st
century
The new curriculum incorporates well know up-to-date
international trends in language teaching:
The Common European Framework of Reference
establishes linguistic competence levels, the Portfolio,
and a new approach towards skills.
Teaching should focus on communication.
Learning with Key Competences is a practical matter.
It is not so much
knowing
, but
knowing how to do things
that counts.
Assessment should be designed with recognised criteria
and standards.
Oxford University Press
English teaching materials are all
developed with these basic ideas in mind.
