Labelling our school
How to start
Before class, place the 12 flashcards from the unit on the
walls around the classroom. Ask children to stand up. Say
words and ask children to point to or face the correct card.
Activities: step-by-step guide
Activity 1
Organise children into groups of four or five. Hand out
crayons and five strips of paper for each group.
Explain that each group needs to prepare five labels for
places at school or objects in class. They can decorate the
labels if they would like. They will need to think about their
posessions that they can label or places in school near their
classroom which can be labelled.
Children are given pieces of tape or sticky tack for their labels.
Allow time for the groups to place their labels in the correct
place. In the case of objects, they can place the object on
their desk and label it. If possible, children can label places
at the school by leaving the class. If not possible, they can
stick their labels next to the correct place flashcard on the
classroom walls.
Take photos of the labels.
Make a wall display or an ICT presentation of the photos of
labelled objects and places.
Ask different groups to talk about their labels. Discuss which
items was labelled most and which least.
Extra idea!
Did they like labelling the school? Did they enjoy the activity?
Tell children:
Thumbs up if yes, thumbs down if no.
