Class Book 5 - page 22

All living things can be classified according to their
characteristics. For example; animals and plants
are different types of living things. Groups of living
things with similar cells are called
kingdoms
. There
are five kingdoms: Animal, Plant,
Monera
,
Fungi
and
Protista
.
The Animal kingdom can be divided into
vertebrates
and
invertebrates
. Fish, birds, reptiles, amphibians and
mammals are all vertebrates. This means they have
a spinal column and a skeleton. Worms and snails are
invertebrates: they don’t have a spinal column.
The Plant kingdom can be divided into two groups:
seed plants and non-seed plants.
Mushrooms and mould belong to the Fungi kingdom.
