he tertiary sector consists of activities that provide a
service, such as selling consumer products. We use
many services such as transport, communications, health
care and education. We consume products such as food,
clothes and toys. Everyone who uses a service or buys
consumer products is a consumer.
In order to protect the world around us, it’s important to be
a responsible consumer. Many consumer products require
limited natural resources, such as water. They also require
energy, which o en comes from non-renewable sources
such as coal, oil or natural gas. Advertisements for products
and services on television, inmagazines and on the Internet
encourage us to consume products and services. However,
we should only consume the products and services that we
really need.
