1. Answer the following questions after analysing the towers and buildings:
a)
What type of structure does each of these towers and buildings have?
b)
What forces are the elements in these structures subjected to?
c)
Of these structures; Which do you think are the oldest/ newest,
heaviest/lightest, most Western/most oriental, simplest/most complex?
d)
What material do you think each of these buildings is made of?
e)
Which are supported by pillars, columns and bearing walls?
f)
What differences are there in height, materials and design between the oldest
and newest towers?
g)
Decide which of these towers and buildings would be most appropriate for
building a model made of cardboard, toothpicks and paper rods.
h)
By looking at the photographs you may have noticed that not all these towers
have the same function. Indicate the intended use for each. Do you see any
relationship between its functionality, its shape or height?
