          What museums show us

In the Neolithic Period, human beings learned to produce

food and the first villages were built. Labour became

specialised and new inventions appeared. With time, metal

began to be used and writing appeared.

Over the next five thousand years, cities and empires were

built, wealth increased and advances were made in art and

science. Along with these developments, war became more

          frequent and social differences grew.

Legends, mysterious ruins such as the temple-observatory at

Stonehenge andmany different types of objects survive from

this period. These have been excavated by archaeologists

and are catalogued and displayed in museums.

Internet. You will travel back in history through the objects displayed there and discover the importance of

preserving and learning about the past.
