includes all of the living and
non-living things in a particular place. An
ecosystem also includes the relationships that
exist between those things. Di erent places
have di erent ecosystems. A
habitat
is the
place where a particular living thing lives.
A tropical rainforest is a habitat for millions
of di erent plants and animals. There are
carnivores, such as snakes and jaguars. There
are herbivores, such as parrots and sloths.
And there are millions of plants, such as
orchids and palm trees. Each animal and plant
depends on its habitat for food. If a plant
or animal becomes
extinct
, the other plants
and animals in the habitat are a ected too.
