Forest fires
Human activity produces waste such as broken
glass and cigarettes, and barbecues can cause
fires that destroy large areas of forest. After a
fire, rain washes away the soil. Together, these
changes can cause the extinction of many plant
and animal species.
Deforestation
Many forests are being cut down by the wood
and paper industries or by farmers to make
larger farms. This can result in the destruction of
the natural forest ecosystem. When the habitats
of many animals in the forest ecosystem are
destroyed, many species can become extinct.
