Where’s the
hottest place
on Earth?
Climate is the group of typical conditions in a place. Factors influencing climate include temperature and
how much precipitation a place has. Climate also depends on where a place is. Places that are high, such
as in mountainous areas, are colder than lower places. Water also affects climate. Earth has three main
temperature zones: hot, temperate and cold.

Climate influences human activity, especially
agriculture
. Farmers can grow crops in places
which have sufficient rain and sun during the year.
The
Equator
:
regions that are
closer to the
Equator receive
the Sun’s rays
more directly.
The North and South
Poles are colder. They
are further away from
the Equator.
Distance from water
affects climate. Water
gets warmer and colder
more slowly than land.
Temperatures near the
sea are
milder
than
temperatures
inland
