A
rain gauge
measures
precipitation. It can
measure rain, snow or hail.
We measure precipitation
in millimetres (mm).
Barometer
: this tells us about the air pressure,
which can indicate if it will rain.
Weather vane
: this tells us the direction of
the wind. It is north, south, east or west.
Thermometer
: this measures
the temperature in the air. We
measure temperature in degrees
centigrade (ºC). A thermometer is
a glass tube with liquid inside. The
liquid rises and falls according to
the temperature.
Anemometer
: this tells
the speed of the wind.
We measure wind speed
in kilometres per hour.
