4. TYPES OF RELIEF ON EARTH
4.1. Continental relief
In these areas,
horizontal landforms
predominate. Some examples are
plains
and
plateaus
. Both of these landforms are flat, but plateaus are elevated above the land
around them. This relief includes
depressions
or wide
valleys
of the big rivers that
flow through them between the mountains
There are three types of relief:
continental
,
coastal
and
submarine
.
Continental relief
extends across the
interior of the continents
. It covers most
of the emerged land.
Elevated relief
with
steep slopes
are
mountains
. The highest part of a mountain
is called a
summit
or a
peak
.
Mountain ranges
are a series of mountains that are
connected to each other. A range of mountains with sharp peaks is called a
sierra
.
Lower, separate elevations are called
hills
.
