The imprint of time on relief
Knowledge about relief has been extremely
important for economic activity and the survival
of societies. A good way to learn about relief is to
observe and analyse it. Relief shows us how it was
formed and what or who has slowly and continually
changed it over time.
The photo on the right is a good example. The action
of water on the rock has shaped these formations
that look like enormous stone mushrooms. They
are part of the
Ciudad Encantada,
in the province
of Cuenca (Castilla-La Mancha).
Have you noticed landforms in the landscapes around you? Have you asked yourself how they were formed?
Imagine that the
National Geographic
wants you to do a report about the relief in an area near you. You and
your team will be asked to choose an area of relief near where you live and identify the affects that different
natural and human agents have had on it.
