How to start
Review jobs at school. Ask:
Who needs keys? The caretaker
or the cook? Who cooks lunch? What does a teacher need?
Ask the students to think about different subjects they
study at school. Mime some different actions, for example,
painting or playing a musical instrument and see if the
students can name the subject.
Activities: step-by-step guide
Activity 1
Tell the students to find the stickers for the page and to
place them in the correct place.
As the students are placing their stickers in the correct
place, walk around the classroom pointing to different
subjects and asking
What’s this?
(Art/Science...).
When the students have placed their stickers correctly they
circle the subjects they like best. Encourage them to say
sentences, for example:
I like English but I don’t like P.E.
Encourage the students to name different teachers for
different subjects (if applicable).
Activity 2
Students point to the pictures of the subjects and say what
they learn at school, for example:
I learn English at school.
We learn Science at school.
Ask questions, for example:
What subject do you like? Who
teaches art? Who is your P.E. teacher?
Students read the sentence at the bottom of the page.
What’s this?
Tell the students to look at the picture at the bottom of the
page. Ask:
What's this? (a pair of scissors)
Extra idea!
Students choose their two favourite subjects.
Have a vote and write numbers on the board.
Assessment opportunity
Recap the lesson with the class. Ask:
How did we begin
today’s lesson? What did we do next? And after that? Was
there anything new?
Encouraging the students to stop and
reflect will help them internalise information.
Review
Ask the students to draw themselves in their favourite class.
Their partner guesses where they are.
Students think of a subject to mime to the rest of the class.
The student who guesses correctly does the next one.
Extension
Class Schedule
Tell the students you are going to make a class schedule.
Bring a large sheet of card with a blank schedule and cards
to fill in the blanks with the subject names. Write the days of
the week (Monday-Friday) on the schedule.
Before class, prepare cards with different subjects to be
placed on the schedule
(Music, PE, English).
Prepare
enough cards to complete the schedule.
Do it as a whole-class activity by asking the class:
What
subjects do you have on Monday?
They might need some
guidance. Elicit answers. Ask, for example:
What was our
first class today? What do we have next?
and so on.
Content objectives
Identify different school subjects.
Describe likes and dislikes about school subjects.
Vocabulary
art, ball, English, flag, flute, microscope, music, paints,
P.E., science
Structures

We learn English at school.
