Teaching tip
Another way to consolidate language structures for many
of the themes in the unit is to put students into groups, give
them a group identity, and call upon them to respond. In the
case of school subjects their groups could be: ‘I am in an art
class’, or ‘I am in the gym’. Elicit the correct responses from
groups, and have themdo the actions with TPRwhen you call
out their names in varying, but simple, ways. For example,
Who is in the library? What do we do in the library?
The
correct group has to respond with a mime. Within the safety
of groups, students will learn that a request is being made of
them and that they need to make the correct response and
will gain satisfaction. Always praise their correct responses.
