Elicit answers from the students by asking, for example,
What is granny doing?Where’s Amy’s father?What’s Amy’s
mum got – biscuits or pizza? Where’s the baby?
Activity 2
Explain to the class that they need to look at the opening
illustration, find the person from the small image and circle
them. In pairs they say who the people are. Check answers
with the whole class
Track 8.
Play the track again encouraging students to
point to the correct image in Activity 2.
Activity 3
Ask the students to look at the pictures and to match the
images with the correct word. When they have finished they
can compare their answers in pairs. Check answers.
Teaching tip
Point out that grandfather can also be called granddad or
grandpa and that grandmother can also be referred to as
granny or grandma. Can they think of any other ways to call
mother and father? (mum and dad, mummy and daddy).
Ask students to point to different members of the family.
Say, for example:
Look! Amy’s grandfather. I can see Amy’s
aunt. Where’s Amy’s father?
Activity 4
Track 9.
Ask the students to listen to the audio track
and to identify different family members in the song. Listen
again encouraging the students to sing along. Ask:
Is the
family happy or sad?
Recap the lesson with the class. Ask:
How did we begin
today’s lesson? What did we do next? And after that?
Activity 5
Ask the students to draw a picture of their family in the
space provided. When they have finished, they show their
partner and describe their family, for example:
This is my
mother. Here is my baby brother.
Read through the sentence at the bottom of the page
Recap the lesson with the class. Ask:
How did we begin
today’s lesson? What did we do next? And after that?
Teaching tip
Make sure students are tolerant and respectful towards
different types of families and to non-conventional living
arrangements.

and with his baby sister.
Ben:

Amy
: He’s making lunch.
Amy’s Granny:
Amy! Ben! Help me tidy up the table, please.
Amy:
OK, Granny.
Amy’s Mum:
Who wants a biscuit with their milk?
Ben:
Yum! I do!
