Teacher's Book 1 - page 72

How to start
Ask the students to stand up. Tell them to pretend to be
driving a car (walking in place). Hold up different traffic
lights (red, yellow, green) and students react accordingly.
If you show the red traffic light, they stop, if you show the
green traffic light they walk in place and ‘drive’ their cars, if
you show the yellow traffic light they walk in place slowly. If
you say ‘traffic jam’, they stop and honk their horns or look
worried/impatient.
Teaching tip
Encourage students to think about appropriate reactions
when things don’t go according to plan (for example,
when there’s a traffic jam). Sometimes people get angry
or frustrated. Talk to the students about different/better
alternatives
Activities: step-by-step guide
Activity 1
Track 17.
Tell the students they are going to listen
to a song about different jobs. Write the words
baker, bus
driver, butcher, firefighter, police officer
and
teacher
on the
board. Play the audio track and ask the students to raise
their hands when they hear one of the words on the board
in the song. Which word was NOT in the song? (butcher).
Listen again encouraging the students to do actions and
sing along.
Ask follow-up questions, for example:
Who helps you learn?
Who puts out fires? Who drives a bus? Who makes bread?
Activity 2
Track 18.
Tell the students to look at the pictures
of different jobs. They listen and say the number. Check
answers. Listen again explaining that they need to point to
the correct image and say the jobs.
Ask different students to come to the front of the class and
mime one of the jobs. The rest of the class guess.
As students are miming different jobs informally, assess
progress, participation, behaviour and attitude.
Activity 3
Tell the students to find the stickers for the page and to
place them in the correct place.
As the students are placing their stickers, walk around the
class pointing to different jobs and asking
Who’s that? What
does he/she do?
(He’s a teacher, he helps us learn…)

Show the flashcards for places in the city. See if students
can name the places and name people who work in these
places. For example, ask:
Who works at the school? A
butcher or a teacher?
Discuss people, signs and objects that help us stay safe in
the city.
Extension
Ask the students to brainstorm additional jobs. Tell them
