How to start
•
Place of the unit flashcards on the walls of the classroom.
Ask the students to stand up and to point or face different
cards.
•
Track 17.
Ask the students to listen to the song from
the previous lesson and to do the actions.
Activities: step-by-step guide
Activity 1
•
Ask the students to look at the pictures. Explain that
they need to say the words and then match them to the
places where they travel: on the land/roads; in the air; on
the water. Allow time for students to match the means of
transport to the correct area. When they have finished, they
can compare their answers with a partner. Check answers.
•
Mime different forms of transportation with the class. Say:
boat
(the students bob up and down as if on a boat),
bike
(students pretend to ride a bike).
•
As students are doing the matching activity, walk around
the class checking progress and understanding. Informally
assess different students in class.
•
Discuss with the class if anyone has travelled by boat, plane,
van, bike or car. Where did they go?Was the trip fast or slow?
Activity 2
•
Tell the students to look at the chart with three columns and
to write words from Activity 1 in the correct place. When
they have finished, they can compare their answers with a
partner. Check answers with the class.
•
Read the sentence at the bottom of the page.
Extra idea!
Revision
•
Ask the students to draw a picture showing different forms
of air, land and sea transport.
•
Ask the students to draw themselves in their favourite form
of transport.
•
Ask the students to look out of the window in the classroom
and to name any forms of transport that they can see.
Extension
•
Ask students to brainstorm additional ways to travel by
road, sea or air.
•
Sing a version of the
Wheels on the Bus
with the class
changing the words to, for example, the wheels on the lorry,
the wheels on the bike or the wheels on the car. Sing:
The
wheels on the lorry go round and round, round and round,
round and round. The wheels on the lorry go round and
round, all through the town.
•
Class survey. Distribute slips of paper and ask students
to illustrate how they come to school (on foot, by bike, by
car, by bus, by motorbike). When they have finished, place
the illustrations on the board and find out which means of
transport is the most common amongst students.
•
Recap the lesson with the class. Ask:
How did we begin
today’s lesson? What did we do next? And after that?

Teaching tip
•
Remember that as well as summative assessment tools
(tests, quizzes, worksheets), formative techniques can
also be employed. Carry out informal assessment through
observing and collecting data throughout lessons. Ask the
students to provide feedback on activities they enjoy and
adjust classes accordingly.
