Titulohe primary sector
How to start
Explain that people with jobs in the primary sector get or
process natural resources. Elicit answers from the class
about what natural resources might be (animals, plants,
minerals).
Ask the students to brainstorm different natural resources
from plants, animals and minerals. Ask them to think
of people who work with these resources (for example,
farmers, fishermen, miners …).
Ask the students to think about what they had for breakfast
and which items came from natural sources. Ask them to
think about materials we use for clothes and boots (rubber,
cotton, wool, leather…) pointing out that these things also
come from natural resources.
Teaching tip
Making real world connections to demonstrate concepts
makes learning more meaningful and memorable.

lakes, in rivers);
Can we have farms in cities? What animals
do we find on farms?

images of farming animals red, of farming crops green and
of fishing blue. When they have finished, they can check
their answers in pairs. Check answers
Assessment opportunity
As the students arecircling the images, walkaround theclass
informally assessing their progress through observation.
Teaching tip
Keep in mind that students might struggle expressing their
ideas in English but encourage them to try and recast their
answers in English if they use L1.
Read the sentence at the bottom of the page.
What’s this?
• The students look at the photo at the bottom of the page.
Say:
What’s this?
Hands up to answer. Invite the students to
think about what they will talk about in future lessons based
on the image.
Extra ideas!

to identify the jobs from the primary sector (fisherman,
