How to start
•
Begin by asking students what is in a community (people
and places). Ask for example,
Is a family in a community?
And a school? What places are in our community?
•
Divide the class into three groups. Tell one group to
brainstorm how we can help at home, another to think
about how we can help at school and another on how we
can help in the neighbourhood. Allow a couple of minutes
for students to come up with ideas then share suggestions
with the class.
•
Ask them why it is important to help others, follow rules
and keep our community clean and safe. What happens if
everyone throws their rubbish on the ground or on the oor
in the classroom/bathroom? What happens if everyone
answers at the same time in class? What might happen if
students never help at home? Explain that in this project
they are going to discuss and discover di erent ways to help
in the community.

Teaching tip
•
Keep in mind that students might struggle expressing their
ideas in English but encourage them to try and recast their
answers in English if they use L1.
