Make predictions!
How to start
Ask the class to think of ways we can help at home, at school
and in the neighbourhood.
Activities: step-by-step guide
In the
Make Predictions
section, look at the pictures on the
page and talk through the di erent pictures to make sure
students understand what is happening in each illustration.
Ask them to look at the pictures and tick the activities and
actions that help others or the community.
Assessment opportunity
As students are ticking their answers walk around the class
asking di erent individuals questions, for example,
Do you
help your friends when they fall over? Do you make your
bed? Do you water the plants?
When students have nished ticking the pictures they can
compare their answers with a partner. Check answers with
the class. For the pictures that were not ticked, talk about
what is the correct behaviour. For example, in the rst row
where the family is throwing rubbish on the beach, ask:
What are they doing wrong? Where should they put their
rubbish? On the beach or in the bin?
Tell the students that they will be doing a survey in the
next lesson. Ask them to read the sentences and to predict
their friends’ results. They circle Yes or No for each answer.
Discuss di erent ways to help at home, things we can
recycle and what it entails to behave well at school.
In the
Results
section tell the students to show their
predictions to a friend. A er that, they need to write a
question for the survey. Brainstorm possible questions, for
example,
Do you wait your turn to come into class? Do you
listen to the teacher? Do you throw rubbish in the bin? Do
you tidy your room?
Extra idea!
Revision
Ask the students to draw a picture of someone not behaving
well in class, and then behaving well. When they have
nished, they share their ideas in small groups.
Extension
Ask the students to write an additional survey question.
