Amazing recycled objects
How to start
•
Talk with the class about recycling. Are there recycling bins
at school? In the neighbourhood? What are the di erent
colours of the di erent bins? Do they recycle?
•
If possible, show the students some materials (plastic
bottle, newspaper, juice carton) and ask the students to
brainstorm how these items could be reused/recycled as
something new/di erent.
Activities: step-by-step guide
•
Look at the illustrations on the page. Ask the students to
match the object in the rst row with its new use in the row
below. Take a look at the example. Say, for example,
Look,
the empty butter container is now a plant holder.
Allow
time for students to do the matching activity. When they
are nished, they can compare their answers with a partner.
Check answers.
•
Ask the students to look at the photos of the empty juice
carton and recycled magazines. Tell them to imagine
di erent ways these items could be reused and to draw
their idea(s) in the section at the base of the page. When
they nish they can complete the sentence at the top of the
page
(Amazing recycled object by: … (their name). Amazing
recycled object: … (name of their design)…
•
A er completing the design, they can share their ideas with
a partner.
