flower pot, a whistle). What is his/her job?
What does he/
she need to do his/her job?
• Discuss how jobs are different. Ask the students to think
about jobs that are indoors, outdoors or both. Then ask
them to think of jobs that are done during the day, at night

• Ask the students to think about jobs they might like to do in
the future. What would they need to do their jobs?

Brainstorming to generate ideas about prior knowledge
reveals what the students already know and serves as a
means for generating ideas about a topic.
Activities: step-by-step guide
Activity 1
•
Ask the students to look at the pictures and to describe
what they see (jobs and objects people need to do their
jobs). Point to different pictures of jobs and ask:
What is
his/her job? What does he/she need?
• Explain that they have to match the jobs with the objects.
When they have finished they can check their answers with
a partner. Check answers.
• Ask the students to think of two new jobs and to brainstorm
the things people need to do these jobs.
Activity 2
•
Do!
Ask the students to work in groups of three and to take
turns miming different jobs for their partners to guess.
• Ask the students if they liked the activity. If they did, they
colour in three stars. If it was OK, they colour in two stars. If
they didn’t like it, they colour in one star.
Assessment opportunity
• As the students are acting out different jobs, walk around
the class informally checking progress and understanding.
• Remind the students that there are a lot of different jobs in
our school and our community.
• Read the sentence at the bottom of the page.
Revision
•
Write the six jobs from Activity 1 on the board. Tell the
students to remember the jobs on the list. Ask the students
to close their eyes. Erase two of the jobs. Ask the students
to open their eyes and say which jobs are missing.
•
Ask the students to talk to a family member about their job
(what they need, where they work, what they do) and to tell
a partner what they found out the following day in class.
Extension
